Currently living in Plattsmouth NE, Deirdre and Derek's studio is set on a beautiful wooded 10 acre hilltop,  at the mouth of the Platte River.  They have had the opportunity to share their love of clay setting up home and studio throughout the U.S. in Florida, Virginia, Missouri, New Mexico and overseas in Japan.  With each move came new experiences adding to their craft.

Deirdre works mainly on the wheel producing functional ware for house and garden.  Her creations often become whimsical with faces emerging from mugs, bakers and garden accents.  There is always humor to be found.  We just have to look.

Derek creates fountains with a hand-building technique.  The measure of success comes from the sound of the water.  Derek is also the glaze master, finding and creating colors that enhance the clay.  There is an endless well of information out there and an endless desire to find its treasures.

The pots are all high-fired stoneware.  An electric kiln is used to bisque fire the pieces and a Bailey down-draft gas kiln is used to glaze to cone 10, heating to 2381F or 1305C.  The glazes used are all food safe.  No lead or toxic materials are used.  ALL POTS ARE MICROWAVE, OVEN, DISHWASHER AND FREEZER SAFE.  The garden pots can be left out year-round.

Pottery isn't just a living, it's our passion.  (And it's cheaper than therapy.)

In addition to participating in art/craft shows to show/sell our wares, we are displaying our work at:
Old Market Artists Gallery in the lower level of the Passageway in Old Market Omaha (Corner of Howard and 11th St); Omaha Clayworks; Durham Western Heritage Museum; Independent Thought Gallery and Studio, and; Blue Pomegranate Art Gallery

Although D2 Pottery is currently a part-time business, both De and Derek plan to turn it into a retirement business once the kids college is paid and Derek retires from his position with Strategic Command in Omaha.

I am fascinated with color, light and shadow. I find myself constantly observing how light plays against objects and the colors that can be found in the deep shadows. Having no formal training in art, I picked up my first paint brush in 2000. While I have painted in groups over the years, I now find great joy in the solitude of my studio almost daily setting up and painting still life work. The collecting and incorporating of my finds into my oil work fulfills my desire to create an artistic and restful painting.

I recognize my talent as a gift from the Lord and enjoy looking for all the ways He has created beauty in the play of light and shadow in nature. I observe and learn a lot from my daily nature walks and I try to bring back what I see into my artwork.

While my current artistic passion is still life, I also enjoy figurative and landscapes as well. Having studied with Jeff Hepworth and Elizabeth Robbins, I also have a great appreciation for works of the Masters, Vermeer and John Singer Sargent.

Very simply, I feel I was designed with a creative spirit and hope to use that gift to bring a place of rest to those who observe my art. I am very thankful for what I have been given in life and hopeful to pass along inspiration for others to see all the goodness God has created.

I currently reside in Omaha with my wonderful husband Frosty and we have four grown daughters who bring us much joy!
